What is the most important safety tip?

Keep anything that could locate you out of the chat: surname, address, school, workplace and social handles, including what shows behind you on camera. Then tap next, report and block whenever something feels off.

before you tap start

A thirty-second check of your own screen

The safest random video chat starts before the stranger appears. Look at your own preview for a moment as if you were the other person. What can you see behind you? Letters on the desk, a uniform on the door, a view of a recognisable street or a photo with your name on it can all reveal more than you would say out loud.

Go by a nickname nobody could link back to you. If you would rather not show your face tonight, choose voice or text before you tap start. The Okedoo video chat guide explains how each mode works.

  • check the background
  • neutral nickname
  • voice or text if you prefer
  • headphones in

while you are talking

Keep the good parts, keep the details

Talk about anything you like: music, travel, the weather where they are, the strange thing that happened at work. What stays out of a first conversation is anything that lets someone find you later. That means your surname, address, school, workplace, daily routine and social media accounts.

If a chat starts to feel uncomfortable, you do not have to be polite about leaving. Tap next. You can report in the same moment, and the person is not told who reported them.

Share stories, not coordinates. A good conversation never needs your address.

Scams that show up on random chats

Most strangers are just bored and friendly. A small number run the same handful of scripts, and recognising them early saves trouble.

if something goes wrong

Three steps when a chat crosses a line

Whatever happened, the order is the same.

  1. Leave

Tap next straight away. You do not need to argue or explain.

  2. Report and block

Report from the chat screen so a moderator can review it, and block so the account never reaches you again.

  3. Tell us more

For anything serious, such as threats or blackmail, contact support with the time and the nickname you saw.

being a good stranger

Safety goes both ways

The other person is taking a chance on you too. Keep your camera on your face, start with a friendly hello and accept a next without taking it personally. Do not record people, and do not push for contact details or anything sexual; both break the community rules and get accounts banned.

If you are hoping to meet women in particular, the same manners matter twice as much. The page on girls video chat has a few pointers on making a good first impression.

how the platform helps

The platform's share of the work

Every chat is one-on-one, so there is no audience. Reports go to people, not just an automated filter. Blocks are permanent. It is an 18+ service where rule-breakers face warnings, limits or bans. The details, including what records we keep, are on is Okedoo safe.

people ask

Safety tip questions

What should I never share on a random chat?

Your surname, address, school, workplace, daily routine, phone number and social media handles. Also check that nothing behind you on camera gives those away.

Someone wants me to move to another app. Should I?

No. Moving away from Okedoo takes you out of reach of reporting and blocking. If they insist, tap next and report.

What if someone recorded me and is threatening me?

Do not pay and do not keep talking. Report and block the account, save any messages, and contact Okedoo support with the time and nickname. Consider contacting local authorities too.

Will the person know I reported them?

No. Reports are confidential, and the person is not told who sent them.

Is it safer to use voice or text instead of video?

They reveal less of you, which many people prefer for first chats. Choose the mode before you tap start; the same report and block tools apply.

Does Okedoo staff ever ask for my password?

Never. Anyone asking for your password or a verification code is not from Okedoo. Report them.

Can I chat safely on public Wi-Fi?

Yes, but use headphones so others nearby cannot hear the conversation, and be mindful of who can see your screen.

What happens to people who break the rules?

They are warned, limited, suspended or banned depending on what they did. Accounts that return to repeat the behaviour are banned again.

Relaxed, careful, and curious.

That is the best way to meet someone new. Ready when you are.
